Joseph Giamarese, of Princeton, is intimately familiar with the struggle. He's asking for help for his nearly 95-year-old mother whose been in need of steady intensive care the past 10 years.

Marie Giamarese’s current level of care exceeds $15,000 per month.

"For almost a decade, my mother has been in and out of physical rehabilitation, assisted living, and memory care facilities,"  Joseph Giamarese wrote on this GoFundMe page.

After seven years of continuous decline, the constant need for care has taken its toll on her finances and "we’re at the end of our rope," the son wrote. The small fortune she was able to amass over the last decade has been decimated by the elder care machine, he said.

Collectively, the facilities cost nearly a million dollars out-of-pocket over the years. And now, she faces expulsion from her facility "unless we can come up with an alternate funding solution" while Medicaid deliberates and quibbles over what’s an allowable expense, he said.

"Mom is a mere shell of what she was, unaware of what is happening regarding her medical bills. Her dementia renders her completely unable to care for herself. Her facility cares for her well, but moving her to a state-run facility would surely cause her great distress. If you’ve ever seen the inside of one of those, you’d know what I mean by that," Giamarese said.

"So, with a heavy heart, I am asking for some help. Please donate if in any way my family has shown you kindness over the years, if Marie has been a source of joy in your life, or if you understand this fight and just want to make a donation to a good cause," Giamarese said.
